Description

The 18.52 m high bronze-cast statue of female Bavaria is located at the border of the Theresienwiese in Munich, Germany. It is one of the biggest bronze statues of the world and probably the best place to get an overview of the annual Oktoberfest from the viewing platform Inside the head of the statue.

History

It was designed by Ludwig Schwanthaler and built from 1844 until 1850 at the foundry of J. B. Stiglmair.

Entry Fees

There are fees for visiting the viewing platform Inside the head of the statue:

  • Regular: 3 €
  • Reduced: 2 €

How to get there

It's best to use the very good public transport system of Munich, e.g. the underground trains U4 and U5 to "Theresienwiese".

Opening hours

April until October, 15th: 9 to 18 o'clock
During the Oktoberfest: 9 to 20 o'clock
Its closed from mid-October until March
